Software Engineer

A Software Engineer at Bonfyre is an excited engineer with experience in engineering quality, performant, and scalable systems and applications with cross-functional teams. A successful candidate will participate in the full software development life cycle. They will be expected to continue their professional growth and encourage their team members to do the same. With our users top of mind, developers are exposed to several challenging opportunities for growth by actively contributing to architectural discussions and taking some ownership in seeing those ideas come to life. They are expected to bring their engineering experience and fresh ideas to the table.


  • Work with the full stack web application technologies established with the product, such as PHP, JavaScript, VUE.js, Python, MySQL, Redis, Memcache, Puppet, Vagrant, Elasticsearch, Jenkins, and AWS. 
  • Work, collaborate, and take ownership of the product life cycle, including the design, development, testing, deployment, maintenance, and enhancement of projects
  • Work with and develop your technical leadership for your team, including the appropriate design, development, implementation, and execution of application software and tooling
  • Produce maintainable, reusable, and high quality application code that represents an example for other developers to learn from
  • Be a defender of the level of quality output by your team, recognizing that the team’s quality of output is a reflection of the team.
  • Have an understanding of automated testing methodologies and how to design appropriate automated tests for continuous integration, helping other team members as needed.
  • Have an understanding that the customer drives the product. Not the technology.
  • Have experience developing solutions that fundamentally include focuses on performance, scalability, and security in a cloud environment as necessary to provide the best value proposition for the business.
  • Advocate the innovation and continuous improvement of the product, team, and organization. Encourage a culture of healthy innovation and growth through new ideas applied appropriately.
  • Have experience with coding best practices in your domain. Share those best practices across teams
  • Introduce new technologies, as necessary, to meet business needs
  • Stay up-to-date with trends and relevant technologies which will enhance the performance of the business of the company
  • Take a positive and constructive approach to giving and receiving feedback
  • Mentor less experienced product team members 
  • Additional duties as assigned


  • 4+ years of experience 
  • Competent understanding of Software Development Life Cycle models
  • Advanced beginner in Agile software development methodologies
  • Competent in evaluating and implementing software security best practices
  • Proficient in application performance and scalability
  • Competent with cloud services, cloud paradigms, and integrations
  • Proficient in platform architecture
  • Proficient in platform languages
  • Competent in platform monitoring solutions and reliability metrics
  • Competent in release engineering
  • Competent in configuration management
  • Expert at code review best practices
  • Competent at automated testing strategies
  • Competent with object-oriented paradigms, MVC frameworks, RESTful APIs, and other platform design patterns
  • Proficient in various relational and non-relational database technologies
  • Proficient in technical, written, and verbal interpersonal communication
  • Proficient problem solving skills
  • Proficient in ability to gain product proficiency 
  • Competent business acumen to understand the balance between cost and business value
